Glock Marksman Barrel Vs Regular - My recently bought 19.5 is more dirt and ruts. The earlier 19.5 model I handled looked more like two lands/grooves at 3 and 9 o'clock and then a polygonal groove. Am I imagining things or did Glock make a change?
My 2017 19x looks the same as my gen 5 mos 17 that I got in late 2019. I also have a Glock factory threaded barrel for my 17 mos and they all look the same
Glock Marksman Barrel Vs Regular
I have a Glock 45 that I bought in October. Do you want me to try to take a picture of the rifling?

Both 19's I drove this year have recessed crowns. I didn't know it was a manufacturing change.
This is an old thread, you may not get a reply and I may be reviewing an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread. Finally, the best kept secret in the gun industry is now official. We no longer have to use hushed voices or sneak into the shadows to talk about finger grooves and double sided slide
Range Report: Glock 45 9mm Pistol
Stop levers (okay, I've never done any of these things). GLOCK Gen5 pistols will be publicly released in G17 and G19 models within days. And thanks to some divine blessing of the 9mm gods, TFB is lucky enough to have two sets of new guns to review.
As reviews go, I'm going to format this "first look" a little differently than normal. Other than the missing finger slots and right-side feed stop lever, these pistols function as GLOCKs always have. Love it or hate it, the trigger is the same, the grip angle is the same, and the overall feel is classic GLOCK.
That's not to say the Gen5 changes are insignificant: from the barrel crown to the magazine, GLOCK has refined the proven design and improved it (my review here). Are the new weapons as drastic or innovative as some may have hoped? Probably not. But at this point we should not be surprised by the decisions of the Austrian arms manufacturers: they are making incremental changes on their own timeline.
As I mentioned in the previous Gen5 GLOCK announcement, TFBTV star James Reeves and I had the opportunity to spend a few days in Smyrna with the new guns. And while the topic of the GLOCK Operators Course will be the subject of a future article, it was the perfect vehicle to put the Gen5 into practice.

Many of the new features found in these G17 and G19 pistols will come as no surprise. According to the proposal, the GLOCK team conducted a "soft launch" of the M Series contract pistols to select law enforcement agencies for at least a year.
GLOCK nDLC provides stronger and more durable protection than previously used coatings. The nDLC finish is unique to the GLOCK manufacturing process. The nDLC finish increases corrosion and scratch protection and improves the weapon's ability to function in degreased or adverse conditions. The nDLC finish will be exclusive to Gen5 pistols at this time.
The new finish is a throwback to the old "bowl" style found on the first through third generation pistols. It looks and feels great and I'm quite happy with the return to the old school style.
Personally, I can never "shoot" the accuracy of the barrel found in any generation of GLOCK, however there are others that can. Glock has improved the flaking on the Gen5 barrel and you may be able to pick out the differences in the images below. I'll see if I can get more details on the design and manufacturing process of the new barrels in the next few days.

The removal of finger grooves improves grip ergonomics. The absence of finger grooves increases the gun's ability to provide a consistently comfortable grip to a wider range of consumers, regardless of finger size and whether they wear gloves.
By far the biggest change to the Gen5 models is the lack of finger holes on the front strap. Personally, I think it's worth the price of admission alone - wood just never works for me in a prime location.
As for the magazine cutout, I think it could have been implemented at half size and still functioned as designed. On the G19, my little finger falls into the relief cut, which is a little annoying. However, I'd rather have a bigger crop than none at all.
The ambidextrous stop lever makes it easy for gun owners to handle the bolt quickly, safely and comfortably, whether they are left-handed or right-handed.
The Glock 26 Is Several Handguns In One (and Quite Deadly)
I'm not left-handed, so it's hard to judge whether the addition of a double-sided stop lever is a significant improvement over previous variations. Most lefties I know have already adjusted their grip and muscle memory to use a standard slide stop release or an alternative method like the slingshot technique.
The larger opening of the extended magazine makes it easier to feed magazine to magazine, especially in high-stress situations where fractions of seconds matter.
I really like to add a fanny magazine. It's subtle enough not to create extra volume, but wide enough to be useful for top-ups.
The new GLOCK Gen5 magazine comes with an orange carrier and bottom plate that extends forward for faster magazine changes.
Glock Oem Barrels 17, 19, 34, 43/43x & 48
The real sleeper in this ad is the orange follower of the new Gen5 magazines. This accessory is like that little toy in your stocking on Christmas Day that you end up playing with as much as all the other gifts combined. Compared to the black tracker, it is much easier to see through the round windows.
The bottom plate of the magazine was slightly extended forward. They are interchangeable between magazines of other generations, with the exception of subcompact pistols (G26).
The Gen5 Glock (RSA) recoil spring assembly for the G19 appears to be the same as the Gen4 RSA. Gen5 on top.
Case compatibility will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The biggest obstacle will be the double-sided slide stop lever, depending on the height of the outer wall of the right case. Gen5 G17 in Surefire Masterfire holster.
Comparing The Glock 43 Vs. 43x
My preliminary and unofficial testing shows that aftermarket threaded barrels for the Gen4 G19 will work in the Gen5 G19. I don't have a Gen4 G17 barrel to test for compatibility, but early reports indicate that swapping may not be possible. I will inform you about the continuation of the testing.
I would like to thank the fine folks at GLOCK in Smyrna, Georgia for making this first look at the new Gen5 possible. I will provide more information and feedback in the coming days. As always, if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them in the comments section below. I am a former Glock shooter (GSSF) with several Glock pistols in 9mm and .45 Auto. Most of my guns are Gen 3 so I'm pretty familiar with Gen 3 and to a lesser extent Gen 4. I'm interested in the new Gen 5 Marksman cannon but haven't found much info on them.
I was able to shoot and examine the Gen 5 Model 19, looked closely at the barrel and saw a noticeable difference in the crown. However, I don't see a visible difference in peeling or chambering. Does anyone have any details on the differences between the new Gen 5 Marksman main and the previous gen mains?
The Gen 5 chamber should be shallower. I am reloading 9mm bullets with a 24 grain polymer coated cartridge. I load some long, magazine length and use them for the smaller IDPA and USPSA in the Gen 3 G17 and G34. I recently picked up a Gen 5 G19 and my ammo made the gun not want to go into battery. A hit to the rear of the slide would load the gun and fire across the stage in just one hit to assist the gun in battery. When it came time to discharge and show purity, the breech wouldn't open because the bullet was stuck in the star. I started using jacketed hubs and seated the hubs a little deeper and it works great. I can only assume that the chamber neck is shallower in gen guns. 5 vs.
Glock 26: Why The 'baby' Glock Is Several Guns In One
Interesting observation and based on your comments I agree that it looks like a narrower chamber. I also wonder if there is any difference in hole dimensions or differences in the grooves?
